I have something a little different than the norm here today on the blog. Today I'd like to welcome Richard Brown as he shares a character profile from his new release, The Gift of Illusion: A Paranormal Thriller.
Character Profile
Name: Amy Winters
Age: 16
Occupation: High School Student
Relationship Status: Single
Height/weight: 5'5 125lbs
Role in Story: Amy Winters is the daughter of Isaac Winters, the lead homicide detective for the Elmwood Police department. On the night of January 17, 1995, when The Gift of Illusion begins, Amy is only nine months old, naturally unaware of the tragic event that will forever change her life. As she gets older, she'll come to know her mother only through the stories and pictures that remain, always wondering how her life could have been different. Better. Worse. Slowly, a feeling of emptiness grows within her, and in her early teens, she often blames this emptiness on her mother. Why aren’t you here for me? Many times, she would wake up in the middle of the night crying out for something that just wasn’t there. Fast forward to present day, Amy is sixteen years old and has come to appreciate what she has and accept what she doesn't. She's acutely aware of the guilt her father has been carrying since her mother was murdered, even trying to help him work through it.

As she tells him in the story, “I don’t blame you, dad. I never have. I know in my heart that it wasn’t your fault. You’ve been the greatest dad any kid could ask for. I wouldn’t trade you for any mom in the entire world. When are you going to realize that?”
Isaac’s tough exterior had suddenly grown paper-thin. Amy could see inside him when he couldn’t even see inside himself.
“Let it go, dad,” Amy cried. “Please, I’m begging you. Just let it go.”
Isaac pulled her close to him. “I’m trying sweetheart. God knows, I am.”
However, today Amy has a bigger problem than a missing mother. Something evil has come to town that is threatening her father, and if he doesn't sort it out soon, Amy may become the host of its next illusion.
Amy's Memorable Quotes:
“I don’t know who he was. He broke through the window and grabbed my wrist. There was blood all over his arm. I thought he was going to kill me.” - recalling an attack.
“Just before he left, you know, with the statue. He told me to warn you to stay out of his way.” - to her father.
“It’s okay. She’s really pretty. You’ve got my permission.” - pressuring her father to go on a date.

ELMWOOD'S BEST DETECTIVE IS ABOUT TO MEET ITS WORST VILLAIN!
An ancient evil has returned to continue the study it began over a century ago, and it's looking for volunteers. Isaac Winters is the perfect test subject. He's a detective with a damaged past, and something to prove.
On the night of his wife's murder sixteen years ago, which left him a single father, Isaac thought he had seen the worst mankind had to offer.
Until now.
It moves like a virus from person to person, carefully selecting its next host, and leaving a trail of incinerated bodies in its wake. There are no witnesses and no evidence except for a small statue of some unknown figure. Accompanied by a partner short on experience, Isaac must uncover and defeat this faceless villain before it takes from him the greatest reminder of his dead wife. Their daughter.

About the Author
Richard is not a vampire, yet.
While he awaits immortality, Richard spends much of his time banging his head on the keyboard trying to make sentences out of words.
Since the age of ten, he's written dozens of short stories, over a hundred poems, and two novels, the first -- The Gift of Illusion -- was released May, 17 2011.
He also enjoys spending time with his daughter, girlfriend, three dogs, watching mixed martial arts, singing karaoke, debating politics, and of course dressing up for photo shoots with a guitar he never really learned to play (ahem).
