Happy Release Day: Guest Post w/ Elizabeth Hoyt: Notorious Pleasures; & Int. Giveaway of SIGNED copy

I'm so excited to have Ms. Elizabeth Hoyt here today on the blog! Notorious Pleasures is one of those books that I've have been anxiously awaiting for the time when I can finally access my pre-ordered download! I fell in the love with the characters of the Maiden Lane series when Elizabeth introduced them to me in the first installment, Wicked Intentions. And now today, I can finally indulge myself with a little "pleasure"! :)

Without further ado, help me welcome Ms. Elizabeth Hoyt to Among the Muses!

~*~Book Blurb~*

Their lives were perfect . . .

Lady Hero Batten, the impeccable sister of the Duke of Wakefield has everything a woman could want, including the perfect fiancĂ©. True, the Marquis of Mandeville is a trifle dull and has no sense of humor, but that doesn’t bother Hero. Until she meets his notorious brother . . .

Until they met each other.

Griffin Remmington, Lord Reading is far from perfect—and he likes it that way. How he spends his days is a mystery, but all London knows he engages in the worst sorts of drunken revelry at night. Hero takes an instant dislike to him, and Griffin thinks that Hero, with her charities and faultless manners, much too perfect for society, let alone his brother. Yet their near-constant battle of wits soon sparks desire—desire which causes their carefully constructed worlds to come tumbling down. As Hero’s wedding nears, and Griffin’s enemies lay plans to end their dreams forever, can two imperfect people find perfect true love?

~*~ Guest Post ~*~

So, my final semester of college I had my life all planned. I was going to graduate—on time!—join the Peace Corp, and spend two years in Africa before I had to come up with a more permanent plan for my life. I’d already collected the required letters of recommendation for the Peace Corp, filled out the forms, got myself fingerprinted (!) and gone through the first round of interviews. Life looked good! I’d always liked traveling and while the probability of coming home from Africa with an intestinal parasite was near 100%, I was pretty psyched.

And then I started seeing this guy by the name of Mr. Hoyt who had no money, a car with holes in the floorboard, and what he said were only two years left to finish his Ph.D. but in reality took more like five. Yes! Love totally took my life plan down, and to this day I’m sadly free of intestinal parasites. I do have two lovely children and twenty-two years of generally blissful marriage, but I digress.

What does this have to do with my newest book, Notorious Pleasures? Well, my heroine, Lady Hero Batten, also has her life completely planned. She’s newly engaged to the Marquess of Mandeville. Mandeville is handsome, rich, aristocratic (of course!) and the political ally of Hero’s brother. He’s the perfect match for her and Hero is quite…pleased…to become his fiancĂ©e. And then, on the very night she’s becomes engaged she meets another man. This man (Lord Griffin Reading) is rude, he’s an unrepentant rake, it’s rumored that he seduced his brother’s first wife, and, oh, yeah, when Hero first meets him, he’s shagging another women—a married woman.

We’re all on board with this, yes? Griffin is not right for Hero. Her brother can see that, her Cousin Bathilda can see that, her sister can see that, heck, even Hero can see that. So why is she attracted to this patently non-perfect guy? You’ll have to read Notorious Pleasures to find out the answer to that—although Griffin’s sense of humor does play a part. What I’m interested in is the choice that Hero suddenly finds herself with: to do what everyone expects of her or to let her life take a different direction than the one she’d planned. It seems like an easy choice—of course you’d go with love and the rakish hero—but what if there are real consequences to that choice? What if taking that path changes everything in your life? It takes courage to change course—especially if you’re the type of person who is cautious about life decisions as Hero is.

I hope you enjoy Griffin and Hero’s story and the choice Hero eventually makes, and in the meantime you can tell me about unexpected turns your life has taken. I’m giving away a signed copy of Notorious Pleasures to one lucky commenter!

~*~ Special Sneak Peak ~*~

The moment Griffin entered the third room he knew Lady Hero was here. It might have been the faint scent of a woman, or perhaps he heard a low gasp. Or perhaps he simply knew on a level below his senses and skin, a level as deep as his soul: She was here. He closed the door behind him, enclosing them both in near darkness. A single candle flickered, abandoned, on a side table.

Griffin glanced about the room. It seemed to be a small library or retiring room. A trio of chairs was by the fireplace on the far side, facing away from the door. Two settees were nearer to him, at right angles around a low table in the center of the room. One of the settees had its back to him, but the trio of chairs was the more obvious choice.

He smiled slightly, feeling his pulse spike, and walked slowly toward the fireplace.

She waited until he was bent over the nearest chair. There was a scuffling and a sudden flurry, but he was watching.

Griffin whirled and made it to the door before she did.

Hero halted, panting, inches from his chest.

He cocked his head, smiling not at all nicely. “Going somewhere, my Lady Perfect?”

“Let me out,” she said. Any other woman would’ve pleaded.

She demanded.

He took a step toward her, forcing her to step back or let him run into her. “No.”

She flung back her head, regal and palely beautiful. The diamonds in her red hair glittered. “I’ve told you I won’t marry you.”

“So you have,” he agreed pleasantly. “But I’m not looking for marriage at the moment.”

Her lips parted, and he saw the delicate skin on her throat flutter under her heartbeat. He’d bedded her only this morning. She’d been an innocent, she’d still be sore. They were in a public gathering, for Christ’s sake.

None of it mattered.

He was ragingly hard for her.

“Come here,” he whispered.

“Griffin.”

He half closed his eyes at her murmur. “You say my name like a lover, so soft, so sweet. I want to lick the word from your lips, sip the exhaled breath from your mouth. I want to possess you utterly. Right now. Right here.”

She darted then, a hart flushed from cover, and tried to leap around him. He caught her by her waist and flung her up against the closed door.

Then he bent his head and looked her in her brilliant diamond-gray eyes. “What will it be, madam?”

Congratulations to Elizabeth on her new book release! I would say an unexpected twist for me was getting married and having children many years ago when I had never planned to do so.

The only unexpected event that happen in my life was... when I was 17 yrs old and found out that I was pregnant.... Yep.. that turned my life upside down, inside out...

Funny thing, me and my daughter were talking about "her coming into the world" the other day. And some may look at it and say that it was a mistake or not supposed to happen... But when I look at her, I see no mistake ~ I see God knowing what He was doing.

Thanks for the memories and the giveaway!

Love me some Hoyt. I met my husband in traffic court 20+ yrs ago. I was getting a divorce and was in court for a ticket. I saw his hot ass strut into court and it was all we could do not to make -out in court. A lady in front of us in court, turned around and said to my husband ( who was a man I had met minutes before) "'why don't you go lay her on the lawn. You know your going to. " Well, if that old Beyotch could see me now. 4 children and 5 grandkids later.
Thanks for the chance~Janeen

Growing up reading wasn't one of my first loves, and English was not one of my favorite subjects-not that I was terrible at the work it just didn't interest me-so considering I'm an editor today its truly one unexpected turn I didn't forsee in my future.

Congrats and great sales with the new book!!

Meeting my husband on a blind date was very unexpected. Moving out at 16 shortly thereafter and "growing" up quickly was also a surprise. But I would not change a thing.

first off - congrats to elizabeth hoyt for the new release. yaaay.

second - OMG awesome giveaway. i read all her books (historical romances will always be my number one guilty pleasures, no matter what) & getting a signed one would be amazing. ok, i stop fangirling now.

third - unecpected turns in my life? hmm - in a way it's making one right now. i can't find a good job in the profession i've studied, but the big big boos at the firm i'm working right now as a temp offered me a rather good one. this one would totally not be in my profession, not even remotely. i worked their to pay for my studies and stuff, os it's a big decision hanging over my head right now & no matter what i decide it definitely turn my life in a certain direction.

when I was in college & the first years of working I strongly resisted being pushed into working in computer programming, but I finally secumbed & had a nice career for many years until my job went offshore. The other unexpect turn was when my father died & I could do what I wanted without critisism.

Love your books Elizabeth!

My Fiance got a teaching job out of university, a job clear across the country. it was 'marry me now and let's go...'
I threw caution to the wind and jumped into an adventure.
30 years later, we are still together.
All the best for your release!

Congratulations Elizabeth on your new release!

The biggest unexpected turn in my life occurred when my sister insisted I read Twilight. When I was in my 20's I read a lot. I drifted away from it when I had my kids and they were younger. I just didn't have the time for it. I read Twilight and enjoyed it. I haven't been able to put books down since and always have one with me. My favorite genre is historical romance.

Something that I didn't expect was that six years ago I'd sell my house for three times what I paid for it and move across the country to live near my son - and be able to pay cash for my present house. About a year after I moved, my son and his wife left for another state. He was trying to save his marriage, he didn't do it to be mean. He was gone for three years, then they divorced and he's now back, so it all worked out, but it was certainly not what I invisioned.

Holy moly that excerpt was hot. I love Elizabeth's books. The most unexpected turn my life has taken was that after studying to be a CPA and working in my chosen profession and I acted as a birth coach for a friend and decided to chuck accounting to become a labor and delivery nurse. Never saw that one coming.

I've loved every book of hers I read and am looking forward to this one.

An expected job loss from a job (one I had't had for long after months of hunting before landing it)led me to be hiring within 2 weeks at a new job (1st interview I went on) that was perfect for me & I still enjoy after 12+ years.

My life has taken quite a few unexpected turns. When I found out I was a diabetic my life changed. My diabetes was uncontrolled and I ended up having to quit a great job. But, now things are a lot better. I have a service dog and I'm maintaining my diabetes well. I try not to take anything for granted and make the most of each day.... Definitely an unexpected turn of events.

There has been 2 unexpected turns in my life so far:

1) I wanted to go study abroad for 1 year but it cost so much even with scholarships I decided to work at an international law firm since they paid more so I could save up some money. I liked the job and the field, so I stayed :-)

2) when choosing between the many international law firms I had my eye set on one of them: the website looked nice, the people seemed friendly and the job was right up my alley. I was really looking forward to working there, it was my top choice, then on the last round of interviews I got a bitchy female boss who had a bad day and was really catty. She took an instant dislike to me, and even though we wouldn't have worked together she vetoed my hiring. I went on to work for a much better firm with a better renomme, friendlier colleagues and the best boss ever (oh yeah and a better salary too ;-p)! I never would have considered my firm if the 1st one would have hired me, so I'm really glad for providence :-)

Sorry for the lengthy response and thank you so much for the generous giveaway!

Congratulations ELizabeth on your new release!! :-)

My life took an unexpected turn when my boss sold his company while I out on maternity leave. The new owners did not like my work at home arrangement. So that was it for me. So I guess you could say I am still on maternity leave. LOL. That was 13 years ago.
