Hi, everyone! It’s a pleasure to be Among the Muses today (thanks so much to Tanya for inviting me over!). I’m currently celebrating the release of my latest paranormal romance, ETERNAL FLAME. (Yes, today is release day, so that means I am doing a happy/nervous dance around my house). But, instead of boring you with talk about that unsexy dance, I thought I’d talk about the inspiration for my stories.
You see…I like to write about monsters. Sexy monsters. Vampires, demons, or, in the case of my latest hero (Zane Wynter)…demons. Sure, some folks might say demons are scary, but I think the right demon, in the right time, well, he can be sexy.
Zane’s character came to me slowly. I knew he was a man with secrets. The best guys always have secrets. I knew he was a fiercely loyal fellow. I knew he had a dark side. Put all these character traits together, and you create that which walks the fine line between good and bad—you create an anti-hero.
I’ve been a fan of the anti-hero for years. I don’t want to write about a perfect, white-knight. Perfection is actually what scares me in this world. We all have flaws, so we might as well fess up to them. So I want my heroes to be flawed, I want them to be dangerous, and I want them to kick-ass.
Zane kicks ass. But then, so does my heroine. Ladies can be strong and dangerous, too!
The inspiration for my stories doesn’t come from my desire to be a fairytale princess. No, I’d rather be writing about the monsters in those fairy tales. The dragons. Or the wicked queens. Give me a dark side, please!!
Thanks for checking out my dark inspiration post. Now I’d love to know…do you have a dark side? Tell me…and one commenter will win an autographed copy of ETERNAL FLAME (or any Cynthia Eden book of your choice).
Thanks!
Cynthia Eden

haha! doesn't everyone have a little bit of a dark side? I love my dark side and indulge in it every night while I am reading haha. I love my paranormal books and they are the outlet for my "darker" side!
Great interview and I cannot wait to read this!

oh yes I can have a little fun when I let my dark side out on weekends when I go out with me friends. Goodie goodies don't have as much fun.

Yes, I have a dark side. Everyone does. I can't wait to read your book. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com
Congratulations to Cynthia on her new book! I think everyone has their dark side, the part of you that doesn't want to be nice and polite.

Hi, Kristen! Books are my outlet for that darker side, too!
LOL, Cait045, I will remember that the goodies don't have as much fun.
Thanks for checking out the post, Tore!
Thank you, Maureen! Sometimes (particularly during the holidays when I have a bit too much family time), my dark side sure urges me to drop some politeness. :-)
Tanya, thanks so much for inviting me over!
While dark sides can be really yummy... I have to admit, I don't think I have one. I definitely have a dorky side, a clumsy side, and a boring side, but nothing as cool as the sexy demons or kick-ass chicks in fiction. That is why I love to read about them!
Thanks for the giveaway! I really hope I win!
*crosses fingers and toes*
P.S. Wicked Queens are so misunderstood. JS.
Hello!
Great chance to win this book.
As the dark side ... I think each one has its own but also depends on us if we let it flourish or not, it is a matter of self-control and feelings and sensations we feel.

Such a good point, Lu! We can control our dark sides, when we want.
Thanks, Cathy! Glad to hear about your dark side!
I have a small bit of the dark side. I think it is kept in check, most of the time.

Hi Cynthia!
Love all of your book covers and the stories sound amazing! I've seen a lot of great feedback on your work and I've got them on my wishlist:) And who doesn't love a flawed hero? Makes them seem more real to me since they're not perfect.
I believe I do have a little bit of the dark in me:) There are things that I would never in a million years tell my parents, yet I've been able to find common ground with others and even explore more of that dark bit especially within the reading community. It's not just about books either, but maybe something inspired me from a book.
HAPPY RELEASE DAY!

Hi, Debbie! I try to keep my dark side in check, too.
Victoria, my husband gets those warnings, too--but sometimes, they come too late!
Thank you, yadkny! Books are such a great way to connect. I've met many of my best friends through our shared reading connection.
oh - apart from my totally dark coffee in the morning (couldn't start the day without it), my dark side can usually be seen in my humour. at least that's what people keep telling me. LOL.
great contest. lvoe your books. :)

My dark side usually comes out when someone wakes me up, I don't like people who interrupt my sleep!
spav05(at)gmail(dot)com
Yes, I have a dark side with a twisted sense of humor. I've been known to pull a practical joke or two. Also, when I lose sleep, you better avoid me. One night, while working night shift, I actually growled at a coworker.
marlenebreakfield(at)yahoo(dot)com
I mostly let my dark side out when I'm reading a fantastic story about sexy vampires, demons or werewolves. I love it when a hero or heroine kicks ass and does some dark deeds - all for the greater good of course. It makes me feel like I was there along with them, but I don't have to clean up any blood afterwards, LOL.
Barbed1951(at)aol(dot)com
I certainly can't wait to read about Zane. Love the name.Congrats on the release too. A dark side ? Yes, and it's through my books and reading.
Or if someone wakes me and I'm not ready to get up. :)

I don't know if you'd call it a dark side LOL... but I do have another persona on occasion that I like to call my "evil twin". She tends to do things that are a bit more risqué then I would. LOL...
Please enter me in the giveaway.
justpeachy36@yahoo.com
Hi, Gertrud! I think dark humor is often the best kind. And thank you!
Me, either, Spav! My dark side is downright dangerous then!
Marlene, I think night shifts can just bring out the dark side in people.
Great point, Barbara! When we read about the darkness in books, there's no messy real-life trouble to worry about!
Thank you, Carol! I have a stack of dark-side books that are calling to me right now!
An evil twin is the best, justpeachy!
Thanks so much for all of the comments!
I think I have a dark side that appears when I get extremely angry, but I don't turn into some crazy evil person haha
lilazncutie1215[at]yahoo[dot]com
I would say I have a dark side when people insult me about something I know I'm good at.
Thanks for the giveaway!

Happy Release Day, Cynthia. I think everyone has a dark side and am suspicious of people who never admit to getting angry or having mean thoughts.

I do not really have a dark side unless someone really makes me mad. I love reading about characters with a dark side.
Thanks for the giveaway.

Hey, Jeanette! A little dark can be a good thing!
That's a completely understandable reason to get dark, Alexa.
Hi, Jane! Thank you! I'm with you--No one is 100% good all the time.
Thanks for checking out the post, Stephanie!
Congrats on the new release Cynthia
Oh yeah I have a dark side..especially before that time of the month..lol.
I think everyone has a dark side, everyone has their limits to things and when people cross those lines our defenses go up and our dark side can come out.

Happy release day Cynthia!
I'm sure if you asked my kids they would say I'm pure evil. :) But I think I have a bit of a dark streak.
beckerjo(at)verizon(dot)net
Great interview thank you so much can't wait to read it. I have a little dark side when I don't get enough sleep and wake up too early :) Thank again great giveaway!
tishajean@charter.net
LOL, elaing8--thanks for a comment that totally made me laugh!
Thank you, JoAnna! Kids--they think we're all evil at one time or another!
Hi,latishajean! Thanks for entering the contest and checking out the post!
I don't know that I have a dark side. My friends have always told me that I have a sick sense of humor, but I don't know if that counts or not.

Congrats on the new release Cynthia. I'm ordering Eternal Flame tonight for my Nook. Can't wait to read it. Can't wait for a Zane and Jana to kick ass. Gotta love the BAD boy and BAD girl too.
ccr0816@yahoo.com
Congrats on the new release! I agree, I think everyone has a dark side. For me, it's easier to control it around people I don't know that well, whereas with people I'm close to, I know they'll forgive me if I let that side show, so sometimes I'm not as careful around them as I should be.
jen(at)delux(dot)com
I do have a dark side ...who doesn't ?
And my dark side enjoys revenge.Well just planning, never actually done it.
raluk.93 at gmail(doT) com
Linda, a sick sense of humor can be a very wicked good thing.
Thanks, CatsMeow! Hope you enjoy the story!
Thank you, JenM! You are so right--my dark side comes out much easier around the folks who know me best.
LOL, PinkStuff, revenge can be very dark!
Heeh, thanks for this interview and giveaway!!
Congrats one the new release! XD
I think all of us have an affinity for the dark side. We fall for the bad guy, the misunderstood one! :P
And some of us have a little of the bad side in us!
For me I think it mostly demonstrates when I lose my patience with someone.
Usually, I am very forgiving and open and sweet, but if you step on my toes one too many times and you don't appreciate the fact that I forgive you, then I draw claws! lol

I think we all have a little bit of a dark side. Its what makes life fun.

Aw yes, the "Dark Side".. I am generally a happy, patient person. I try not to let things I can't control phase me but often times, that's easier said then done.
My dark side pokes out once a yr. But when it peaks it's ugly nose out from behind the curtain, doom & gloom is certainly on the way to join the party.
Any guess's? Black Friday. Two lil nasty words. We don't have kids, just dogs that are like our kids but in real life not supposed to be. My sister on the other hand has 3 boys. I shop for them on Black Fridays. BF breeds chaos & insanity. For those who don't have to participate, consider yourself lucky. So, I head out to mark my place n line @ the crack of midnight freezing my @$$ off. I'm like that kid in the movie Christmas Story "I can't put my arms down" & I'm still freezing ;D The night begins w/chatter, making new friends. We all play fair, by the unwritten etiquet line rules & get along. After doing this for 10 plus yrs you'd think I'd learn my lesson. But anyway, slowly we pass the time. I start to feel "It" creeping in minutes before the doors open. My hairs on the back of my neck begin to stand & paranoiya kicks in thinking about past experiences. You tell yourself this yr'll be different knowing that it probably won't be. I'm #5 in line this yr. I didn't get here fast enough to get the #1 spot like in past yrs. More people trying to save a buck & economy is aweful. We see store people coming & it's close to opening time. Looks like I might be wrong, maybe this yr will be different. Doors are being unlocked AND.....
Everyone in the lot jumps out of car & rushes the line, forcing people into the closed doors. Thank god I'm #5 in line & someone softer than the glass door is in front of me this time & hoping they aren't hurt. It's on. The Dark Sides screaming to come out. Adrenaline's pumping full speed. I no longer feel cold anymore & I'm seeing red. All bets are off & it's everyone for themselves. The excitement of the hunt driving the Dark Side & noone is feeling the luv we built while bonding in line.
Every year I ask myself, How can people be so mean & cruel? Why is this chaos allowed to happen? Since when is it right to cut in line? This is Christmas. It's suppose to be a time for happiness & giving. But now I'm angry & ready to pounce.
Answer: I torture myself for my nephews. They're really great kids. My sister's a single mom, raising her kids the best she can w/the little money she made, that was up until her job (like alot of other good people) was eliminated so the company could save a whole $20,000 a yr. We do what we can for family. One of the ways that helps is to try to get Black Friday sales & discounts. We want the kids to feel like they are having a Christmas & also not impact the budget.
Yea, my Dark Side's a neccesary evil that I've compromised w/and accepted to better the cause. Plus I think I get release I need for being too nice the rest of the year. ;D
Happy upcoming Holidays. Thanks for a great contest question & hope my comment isn't too long.
